Youth is the subject matter of my painting Blue Spring which aims to express a moment of transition into adulthood. I want the audience to feel a subtle empathy for youth’s imperfection and strangeness. In Chinese, youth is 靑春, and can be translated as ‘blue’ and ‘spring means ’individuality’. The title Blue Spring evokes an ambiguous meaning of youth that can make us feel splendid but blue. It is composed of complex feelings about youth, which are revitalised with vibrant visual quality. I want the audience to empathise with my painting which seeks to express the emotions of life.
