Emma Smith

Decadent Purity is Malignant employs performance and video art to explore personal experiences through subtle bodily expressions. The artist interprets and enacts the spoken words of friends through an anonymous persona. Through this task, each performance attempts to break-down social constructs of sexuality and examine how these core structures inform notions of identity. Inspired by Chiho Aoshima’s Little Miss Gravestone’s Absent Musings, this work intends to respond directly to the audience to create conversations around the relationships between self-perception, personal social worlds and its influence on life outlook.
