Unstitched explores themes of fractured identity and the effects of grief on an individual. My work is created by using illustrative embroidery that showcases the personification of three major emotions; anger, depression and numbness. These characters work as self-portraits and were created as a coping mechanism and a form of self-preservation in the aftermath of a tragedy. My art practice seeks to capture the constantly shifting impacts that grief has on an individual’s mental health. By using embroidery, I also reveal an underlying theme of healing as each stitch works to bring the fractured emotions back together again.
