Where to?, responds to my observation of diminishing small shops within my home town and the impact of this loss on the local community. To expose this issue, I created a collage of business logos from my local area using a machine embroidery technique known as ‘thread painting’. The juxtapositions of logos from independent stores and shopping centres or franchises is used to capture the challenges faced by the community including the draining of locality’s economic and social capital as well as the loss of community spirit – the many small interactions that occur in our everyday lives.
