At odds uses the meanings and value embedded in textiles to deepen my understanding of the issues surrounding asylum seekers in Australia. The collection of soft sculptures shows a chronological journey of my discovery and evaluations of this on-going political issue. The work grapples with questions: how can I as an individual respond to Australian refugee policy through art? and what impact artworks can have on current asylum crisis? Through this work I hope to bring attention to art as an important cultural vehicle for responding to the challenges facing asylum seekers and others in need of humanitarian assistance.
